ManMUN's High School Conference
Saturday 18th February 2017 marked a big day for the ManMUN Society as we hosted our first ever High School Conference! This year we set ourselves the goal of reaching out to younger students and teaching them the importance of MUN. We believe MUN is a great way for students to learn vital skills such as confidence boosting, public speaking, global awareness and much, much more.
We contacted a number of schools throughout Greater Manchester, and a handful of them replied back with much interest. The Conference itself was a simulation of the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) and the students discussed the ever prevalent issue of Nuclear Weapons. There were also a number of University students who volunteered to help out on the day, giving the younger students tips and ideas on points to make and clauses to include in the resolution.
We were tremendously impressed in the level of debate shown throughout the day. It really did not seem like this was the first time they debated MUN-style. Many of the points they made were extremely accurate and valid, and even reaching the level you would see at a University Conference! Below are pictures of the students who excelled beyond what was expected, and even won awards!
We would like to give a special thanks to Marsden Heights, Parrswood and William Hulme for getting involved!
